The most interesting change along this Carmel Valley corridor is not a new building or a dramatic redesign. It is a change in function.
One Paseo is leaning further into services, temporary retail, wellness, and scheduled lawn programming. Across El Camino Real, Del Mar Highlands Town Center is adding more casual food choices while Sky Deck continues to revise its restaurant lineup.
That distinction matters if this is already part of your weekend routine. A storefront may still look familiar from a distance, but what you can accomplish in one stop has changed since summer 2025.
The short version: One Paseo has become more useful for errands and planned experiences. Del Mar Highlands has become broader as a dining stop, though its online directory does not always reflect the latest restaurant changes.
The clearest change at One Paseo is practical, not glamorous
Nordstrom Local opened at One Paseo in June 2026, but the name can create the wrong expectation. This is not a smaller department store filled with clothing racks.
The 1,190-square-foot location is a service hub for pickups, returns, and alterations. For Carmel Valley residents, that makes it an errand stop rather than a traditional shopping destination. It also represents the larger direction One Paseo is taking: more reasons to stop briefly, complete a task, and combine it with coffee, lunch, or an event on the lawn.
That practical use may be more meaningful to regular visitors than another conventional boutique. It also explains why an online map may not tell the full story. One Paseo’s static map still showed Suite 1040 as coming soon even after Nordstrom confirmed the location was operating.
The current business page is the better source when a map and an individual tenant page disagree.
One prominent suite went from craft beer to luxury resale
The more visible change is in Suite 1300.
Harland Brewing closed its One Paseo tasting room in October 2025 after six years. The former brewery space at 3718 Paseo Place now houses a limited-time Fashionphile pop-up.
Fashionphile gives visitors a place to browse authenticated pre-owned designer goods, collect online orders, and sell eligible pieces in person. One Paseo has not published an end date for the pop-up, so it should be treated as a current summer stop rather than a permanent replacement.
The change says more about the corridor than either business does on its own. The same suite has moved from a brewery built around staying awhile to a temporary luxury-retail concept built around browsing, pickup, and resale. One Paseo still provides gathering space through its lawn and restaurant patios, but more of that social activity is now being programmed by the center instead of anchored by a tasting room.
One Paseo’s food story is still partly about what comes next
Jan’s Health Bar opened its first San Diego location at One Paseo in early June 2025. Its smoothies, açai bowls, salads, wraps, and sandwiches helped reinforce the center’s health-oriented quick-service mix.
The next closely watched addition is Goop Kitchen. It is officially planned for the former Tender Greens space, with a menu described by One Paseo as including bowls, salads, rotisserie items, pizza, pasta, and smoothies. The concept is designed primarily around pickup and delivery.
As of July 11, 2026, One Paseo still labels Goop Kitchen as coming soon. An August 15 promotional listing on the events calendar should not be read as a confirmed opening date.

Del Mar Highlands is adding more reasons to stop for casual food
The shift at Del Mar Highlands is easier to taste.
Go Greek Yogurt opened January 30, 2026 at 3545 Del Mar Heights Road. It is the company’s first San Diego-area location, serving traditional and frozen yogurt bowls, smoothies, and sweet or savory Greek bowls.
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue followed in May 2026 at 3545 Del Mar Heights Road, Suite C7. Its Hawaiian-style plate lunches add another quick-service option to the center’s established mix.
These openings broaden the everyday side of Del Mar Highlands. Culinary Dropout, which opened in late April 2025, remains the full-service counterpoint, with weekend brunch, live music, and a larger sit-down format. The center can now support several different kinds of stops, from a yogurt bowl or plate lunch to a longer meal.
Retail has shifted as well. Warby Parker opened September 27, 2025, at 12853 El Camino Real, Suite 103. The location offers eyewear, contacts, and in-store eye exams, adding another service component to the center’s retail lineup.
Sky Deck is five years old, but its roster is still being rewritten
Sky Deck marked its fifth anniversary in June 2026. It has been open long enough to become part of the Carmel Valley dining routine, yet its tenant mix is still changing in meaningful ways.
Zen Modern Asian Bistro is now open inside the food hall. This was not a one-for-one stall replacement. Zen combined spaces formerly occupied by J’s and Ziziki’s into a larger restaurant and bar. Its menu includes Chinese and Taiwanese-influenced dishes such as dim sum, noodles, wok preparations, and Peking duck.
That gives Sky Deck a larger anchor-style restaurant within the collective.
At the same time, Urbana Mexican Gastronomy closed after service on May 31, 2026. Reporting indicates that a San Diego restaurant group acquired the space and is planning a seafood-focused concept, but the operator’s name and opening date were not confirmed.
The contrast between Zen’s expansion and Urbana’s departure captures the current Sky Deck story. This is not simply a food hall adding more names. It is consolidating some spaces, losing others, and adjusting the balance between smaller operators and larger restaurant formats.
There is also a practical accuracy issue. Del Mar Highlands’ directory continued to list Urbana after its announced final day. Residents planning dinner should confirm a restaurant through its current business page rather than relying only on the center directory.
A current Carmel Valley summer weekend
For the July 11 and 12 publication weekend, One Paseo has several scheduled lawn activities. Event details can change, so checking the current One Paseo calendar before leaving home is sensible.
Saturday, July 11
- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Icebox Truck frozen-treat pop-up is scheduled for the One Paseo lawn.
- 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.: One Paseo is hosting free World Cup quarterfinal screenings on the lawn.
- Between events: Nordstrom Local can handle a pickup or return, while Fashionphile offers a limited-time stop in the former Harland space.
- Later in the day: Del Mar Highlands offers casual options such as Go Greek Yogurt and L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, along with full-service dining and the current Sky Deck roster.
Sunday, July 12
One Paseo lists family yoga on the lawn from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is listed at $30 per family, and participants are asked to bring yoga mats.
Later-summer programming includes an outdoor concert on July 18, a screening of How to Train Your Dragon on July 25, another movie on August 1, and a concert on August 8. Recurring frozen-treat and wellness events are also listed.
One event page for a July live-music appearance contains an incorrect weekday and still refers to the closed Harland Brewing location. That is another reason to verify individual listings before building the day around them.
Three “coming soon” signs that are not weekend stops yet
The corridor has several anticipated openings, but none should be treated as operating without fresh confirmation.
Goop Kitchen is planned for One Paseo. No firm opening date was found.
Joe & The Juice is expected to return to Carmel Valley later in 2026 at Del Mar Highlands after its previous One Paseo location closed. It appears in the Del Mar Highlands directory, but current reporting still describes it as upcoming.
Wanderlust Creamery is listed as coming soon in Suite AA-1 at Del Mar Highlands. No reliable opening date was available as of July 11.
For now, these names are better understood as clues to the corridor’s direction. Health-oriented food, coffee and juice, and specialty dessert concepts continue to shape the tenant mix, even when the opening calendar remains unsettled.
The parking choice may decide where the weekend starts
The half-mile in the title is best treated as a description of a compact retail corridor, not a measured door-to-door walking route. The centers sit across major arterial roads, and there is no documented completed pedestrian bridge between them. Use designated crossings and allow more time than the short distance may suggest.
Parking also works differently at each center.
One Paseo posts time limits for selected spaces in its retail garage and for restaurant pickup. Paid premium parking is available in parts of the surface lot and garage. A paid overflow structure is located at 12845 Paseo Village Way, and ChargePoint EV charging is available on Level 1 of the retail structure.
Del Mar Highlands provides surface parking and a multilevel garage, with access from El Camino Real, Townsgate Drive, Pell Place, and the area behind Jimbo’s. The center lists four EV charging stations on Level 1.
One Paseo’s trolley does not solve the weekend connection. Its published schedule runs Monday through Friday between One Paseo, Solana Beach Transit Center, and nearby corporate centers.
What has actually changed
The corridor has not become unrecognizable. Its center of gravity has shifted.
One Paseo is placing more emphasis on services, temporary retail, wellness, and events that give residents a reason to plan a visit. Del Mar Highlands is broadening its casual food choices while Sky Deck works through a more visible period of restaurant turnover.
For a Carmel Valley summer weekend, that means checking which businesses are genuinely open, treating “coming soon” as exactly that, and choosing a starting point based on the errand or meal you actually want. The buildings may look familiar. The way the corridor works is different.
